Freelancing can be brilliant, but it can also be lonely, overwhelming and hard to stay focused (and I say that as someone with ADHD!) The Freelance Business Lounge is where that changes.
Imagine a cosy little coffee shop, filled with other lovely freelancers who understand the self-employed life. There’s a bookshelf in the corner filled with resources to help you on your self-employed journey, and tables to co-work with others. One person is sharing a cool tool they’ve recently found, another two are raising a cuppa over some good news, and one is sharing a silly gif to cheer up another.
That’s the Freelance Business Lounge. Grab a drink and a seat!
Welcome to your digital freelance business hub!
This is one of the most common things I hear from members of the Freelance Business Lounge after they join their first call. Because working for yourself doesn’t mean you have to do it all by yourself.
I wanted to create a space where people can jump on one of the twice weekly calls, and share their wins, their challenges and discuss topics important to us freelancers - whether that’s doing your accounts, tackling tricky client situations or simply how to focus when your brain just wants to binge watch the latest series of Bridgerton.
It was also important to me that it be inclusive, neurodivergent friendly, and above all, kind. We’re here to help you create a business that works for your brain and your life. So, no ‘you must be disciplined, consistent and pushy’. And yes to ‘how can we make this work better for my brain, to get the best results?’ Because sometimes we need to make things fun, to get the work done!
I combined all the resources I’ve created, from my 30 Days To Go Freelance course to trainings on pensions and funnels, and the live elements of the twice weekly calls, accountability sessions and thriving private Discord community, to create this digital cafe for freelancers.
I’d love to invite you in!
All of the courses and content below, plus:
Two weekly group calls, at 1:30pm on Monday and Thursday. These are usually 60-90 minutes long, and you can drop in for as long as you like
Voxer Tuesdays, where you can voice message me with any quick 1:1 questions
Weekly Accountability call on Tuesdays at 10am, to get things done
Discord chats on a wide variety of topics, including accountability, tech chat, sales and marketing and celebrating delightful moments!
It’s £30 a month, or £299 a year (saving £61!)
FAQ section
You've got questions. We've got answers.
If you’re paying monthly, it’s a rolling 30 day contract. So if you decide a few weeks into your first month that it’s not for you, you can cancel and there won’t be another payment!
Nope! I have found that those who try to make the calls get the most out of the membership, especially in building relationships with others in the community, but you don’t have to attend all of them! In fact, sometimes members can only make the first 30 minutes or last 30 minutes of a call, and that’s totally ok (just let me know at the start of a call so we can make sure we hear from you earlier!)
Not every time no, sometimes members want to show up for a call to just hear from others. But you’ll get the most out of them if you share (and everyone is kind and supportive).
All Freelance Business Lounge members get a discounted rate for power hours, so they’re £100 rather than £149. Just message me to get the code.
Yup! We have members in Europe and the UK. The important things to consider are if you can make the calls, and that the content will be mainly UK-centric when it comes to discussing things like legal and financial updates.
It can vary from 3-12 people per call. Everyone will get a chance to talk (this one is a big one for me, and why I don’t want to just blindly grow it - the community and the relationships between members is SO important, and I want everyone to feel heard).
A wide range! We have members from the charity and fundraising sectors, money coaching, mental health, and even a Pilates instructor (Trudy, who leads a short desk stretch at the start of the Thursday call).
It’s also a very neurodivergent-friendly group. You don’t have to mask here.
Voxer is an app you can use on your phone or desktop, to send voice and text messages. It’s a bit like WhatsApp, but the key difference is that you can choose to listen to the voice messages live as they’re being recorded (like a walkie talkie) or listen back to the replay. I offer Voxer hours on Tuesdays, which members use to brainstorm on particular ideas, send over documents or emails for a second opinion, or even to just have a bit of a rant.
I use Voxer because a lot of members verbally process things, so having a space to voice note about it can help work through a process. In fact, it’s quite common for a message to end with “actually, I’ve just realised while saying this out loud what the right option is”.
Yes! The beauty of FBL is that you get the 30 Days To Go Freelance course to take you through the steps, a ready made support community on the calls, and then you can send me further questions on Tuesdays, or book a discounted power hour to brainstorm things further.
Yes! Quite a few of the FBL have been members since lockdown, and have been freelance for many years. For them, the value is in having a community of others who understand it - and there’s always something in the resources that they may not have done yet, like creating a funnel, a mailing list or changing up a business through a life change (like caring responsibilities, relocation, adapting to a long term illness or having more or less time to work).
"Emma is an insightful and inspirational coach. She has a wealth of knowledge on all aspects of freelancing, from setting up systems to finding clients. If she doesn't know the answer to a questions she surely knows someone who does! Her Freelance Business Lounge is a great community for freelancers to access Emma's advice and find a peer support group. It can also help provide an important structure to a freelance working week."
"Joining the business lounge was a very easy decision as Emma knows what it is to freelance in the UK, has what seems to be a bottomless source of knowledge and insight; and is just so lovely to talk with. You also get the freelance lounge crew – the most wonderful and valuable tribe of lovely professionals who I could listen to for hours as I always learn something new on a call. I feel privileged and lucky to have found my tribe. Best business decision of the year."
"The very best part for me is the weekly networking meetings. They help give structure to my week, and by being able to pop along and talk about challenges, problems, successes, questions, queries, absolutely anything that we've got on our minds is amazing."
"The bit that I love most about the Freelance Business Lounge is being able to drop into Emma's Voxer, leave her a message with what feels like a random question, and have her come back to me with her absolute best advice, free tips, pointers, and where to go and how to move forward."
"The Freelance Business Lounge is some of the best money I spend on my business/myself. The resources in the membership are so useful and the support through the private group and weekly calls help keep me sane! Freelancing can be lonely (even if you’re an introvert) so for me the group support alone is worth it, all the additional materials are just a huge bonus. I can’t recommend the Business Lounge enough, it has been hugely helpful on my freelance journey."
"Emma is my first port of call whenever I want to uplevel my freelance business, and my first recommendation for anyone considering freelancing. Her Freelance Business Lounge provides the best ongoing support I could imagine – a growing list of resources, regular chats, offers for services, and a friendly group to provide cheerleading and accountability! Emma is the freelance QUEEN.“
